Cheers to 2024 🥂 Happy New Year!! I wish you all a beautiful, blessed year ahead filled with memorable moments

It’s crazy that we have bid 2023 adieu, and are now welcoming in the new year. Last year, was a doozy for me. A rollercoaster year filled with many ups and downs. Some days were spent full of laughter, and others were just utter tear-soaked distress. Through it all, while it’s certainly been a journey, I do eagerly look forward to this new year for more inevitable lessons to be learned, for more opportunities to grow and better myself, and for better days to come ♥️

Happy Thanksgiving!! 🍁 I’m thankful and blessed everyday to be surrounded by so many amazing, inspiring, and captivating souls.

This past year has been a doozy, been hit with a rollercoaster of highs and lows, and I don’t know where I would be if I didn’t have my people to lean on. It’s hard at times to count our blessings when we feel we are drowning in sorrows and burdens.

The one thing that keeps me going is knowing that at the end of the day the people I meet and connect with, those who fill my days with laughter and joy and warmth, those are the moments that matter the most. I am so blessed each and everyday to be surrounded by love and light.

Life may be difficult at times, but it doesn’t mean we need to bear a cynical mindset as well. It’s definitely been a learning process to remind myself of everything I have to be thankful for. As one idol of a singer once said, “Long live the magic we made, I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you” 💕 I am so incredibly blessed and thankful each and every day. I wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving, and hope everyone stays safe and healthy!

2/8/1931 - 8/19/2023

One week ago my maternal grandma (or in Cantonese “Popo”) passed away. Below are highlights of my speech yesterday at her funeral to commemorate such an important person in my life. While I knew this day would eventually come, Popo always seemed eternal and invincible in my eyes.

Popo was a kind of loving, nurturing grandma, who knew the best way into anyone’s heart is through the stomach, and food was Popo’s love language. Her house was always filled with mouth-watering aromas as she prepared our favorite meals during our stays. A very modest and humble woman through and through, Popo was simply satisfied knowing she had filled our bellies, and we were happy and healthy.

She often acted selflessly, and would prioritize her family before tending to her own needs. She found joy in making sure those around her were happy. It even became a struggle at times for us to gift her something without her thinking of another who may benefit from the gift as well.

Popo was very sharp and witty, and added hilarious comments to every situation. Once in the hospital I asked her to speak louder to verify if she swallowed her medicine, and she said I needed hearing aids. She called me “Big Eyed Girl” as I scared her when I went up to greet her. Even in her severe pain, she was still very true to herself. That was my Popo, my sassy, stubborn grandma.

Popo is a huge reason why I am who I am today; I want to make her proud. These last weeks I spent by her side are moments I will forever cherish. She walked everyday with strength and determination to fight for her family and care for us all as best she could. She is a constant motivator for me to act courageously. Her deep caring nature for others has taught me what unconditional love means, and what family means. I will always hold close to my heart the last words of wisdom she gave me.

Popo, you are still eternal and invincible in my eyes. You’ve taken care of us everyday; it is our turn to take care of each other and ourselves. Now it is up to us to carry on your legacy. Rest in peace, Popo. We love you ♥️
